Nov. 17, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Defending Class AAA football state champion Martinsburg got going in the third quarter Saturday afternoon and rolled past Spring Valley, 36-0, in a first-round playoff game.

No. 15 Spring Valley (6-5) was within 7-0 at halftime.

The No. 2 Bulldogs (10-1) grabbed momentum on their first drive of the second half. Tory Lee's 27-yard touchdown reception from Malique Watkins and a two-point conversion made it 15-0.

Deamonte Lindsay's 49-yard scoring run made it 22-0.

Then Watkins applied the clincher, racing 94 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the third period that put Martinsburg ahead, 29-0.

Lindsay added an 8-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Spring Valley had the ball first and turned the ball over on downs, but took it right back on an interception by Chase Lucas. The Timberwolves fumbled the ball back to the Bulldogs

Dylan Lageman's interception return with a late hit penalty tacked on left Spring Valley near mid-field as the first quarter ended.

The second quarter began with Spring Valley moving into Martinsburg's end of the field, but an intercepted pass thwarted the drive.

Martinsburg capitalized on the turnover with Watkins scoring on a 1-yard run for a 7-0 lead with 1:46 remaining in the first half.

The Bulldogs, who have won three consecutive state titles, will host Cabell Midland in the second round.

Martinsburg unofficially rolled up 442 total yards, including 342 on the ground. Watkins threw two interceptions deep in Spring Valley territory, but made up for it by rushing for 204 yards and passing for 84. Lindsay rushed for 110 yards on 12 carries.

Spring Valley's 143 rushing yards unofficially included Lageman with 62 on 20 carries, Colby Webb with 30 on 11 attempts and quarterback Tyler Brown with 20 on two rushes. Brown was 0-for-5 on pass attempts.

The Timberwolves were limited to 47 yards after halftime.
