Men's golf finishes ninth at Invitational
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Marshall men’s golf finished in ninth place at the 12-team Renaissance Invitational.
Indiana won with a 54-hole score of 832. Marshall shot 871 at the Renaissance Golf Club.
Alex Martin for the Indiana Hoosiers was the medalist at 16-under-par 200 with rounds of 69, 64 and 67 on the par-72 course.
Marshall freshman Nathan Kerns from Ironton was in a tie for 14th place at 4-under-par 72-71-69 — 212.
Other Marshall players were Bennett Boyer (76-69-71 — 215), Bosten Miller (74-71-77 — 222), Aaron Boggs (74-77-71 — 222) and Dustin Cutlip (79-82-79 — 240).
WOMEN’S GOLF
GULF SHORES, Ala. — Andrea Grier from Marshall is tied for fifth place and the Thundering Herd is seventh after round one of the UAB Blazer Ball Beach Blast women’s golf event at the Peninsula Golf Club.
Grier shot a 2-over-par 74 and is two strokes out of the lead.
Middle Tennessee State has the lead at 297. Marshall opened at 308.
Larie Lynch of Huntington carded a 77 while Maria Battaglia shot 78. Also playing for the Thundering Herd are Molly Ginger (79) and Samantha DiDomenico (84).
The 12-schools play the final round Tuesday.
