HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame members in the 25th anniversary Class of 2008 being introduced today include Jim Donnan, Phil Ratliff, Anna Mitina, Tom Kies, Byron Carmichael, J.R. VanHoose and Bill Harris.
PROMOTIONS
Today's game ball will be delivered by the U.S. Army Fastrax Airbone Parachute team.
The first 5,000 fans will receive free Marshall schedule magnets.
THE SERIES
Illinois State and Marshall have met four times and the Thundering Herd leads the series, 3-1.
The last meeting was 1984 with Marshall edging the Redbirds, 10-3, in Normal, Ill.
THE LAST TIME. ...
A few things have changed since Nov. 10, 1984, when the Thundering Herd and Redbirds last met. The last time the teams met:
- A first-class postage stamp was 20 cents.
- Gasoline was $1.36 per gallon.
- Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was named album of the year.
- Apple introduced a user-friendly Macintosh personal computer.
- The Ronald Reagan-George Bush ticket defeated Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro in a landslide with 59 percent of the popular vote.
FAN SUPPORT
Marshall averaged a school-record 30,029 in home attendance during the 2007 season. A record crowd of 40,383 attended the Friends of Coal Bowl game against West Virginia.
TEAM LEADERS
Marshall head coach Mark Snyder named the entire senior class as team captains for the season.
