Winfield's Booth gets on Golf Channel

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Winfield resident Sam Booth will be featured on The Golf Channel's newest original series showcasing the lives of future golf stars under the tutelage of one of the world's most acclaimed swing coaches.

School of Golf: Hilton Head Island, an eight-part real-life series that will follow the lives of young men and women as they live and learn at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy, debuts at 11 p.m. Tuesday on the Golf Channel.

Booth, 16, is a high-school sophomore in the series and will be featured in the first episode. The program covers the 2007-08 year and shows players as they try to balance the demands of competition at its highest level with the normal stresses of teen life, including academics.

Haney, swing coach for Tiger Woods, the No. 1 player in the world, is the academy's director of instruction. The series will highlight how Haney and his team make huge improvements in the technical and mental aspects of the students' games.

"Sam is determined to do whatever it takes to play collegiate golf," said coach Jeff Fisher. "Sam will be a top Division I golfer if he continues to work hard at his game and his focus."

Hank Haney IJGA granted show producers complete access to his facility.
