North-South basketball game set Friday

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Class A boys basketball state champion Tug Valley’s duo of Mikey Newsome and Austin Brewer join forces again Friday at the North-South All-Star Basketball Classic in the South Charleston Civic Center.

Activities begin Friday at 6:15 p.m. with free throw, slam dunk and 3-point shooting competitions before the game tips off at 7:30 p.m.

The South roster includes Newsome, a 6-foot guard who scored 17.8 points per game last season, and the 6-2 Brewer (15.1) along with 6-1 Levi Jordan from Buffalo (17.1) and 6-4 Mackenzie Martin from Chapmanville (21.3).

Top scorers from last season on the South squad are 6-1 Luke Eddy from George Washington (26.2) and 6-4 Brett Morris from Webster County (25.9).

State player of the year Donte’ Grantham, a 6-7 forward from Martinsburg, leads the North side.

Martinsburg won the Class AAA state title with Grantham averaging 18.3 points.
