Redskins' Brown leads local All-MSAC selections
HUNTINGTON -- Matt Brown from the Hurricane Redskins was a first team selection on the All-Mountain State Athletic Conference boys basketball team.
Brown scored 15.7 points per game as a senior.
Brandon Hutchison from Huntington High and Jeremy Adkins from Spring Valley earned spots on the second team.
Hutchison, a senior, averaged 10 points a game. Adkins scored 18 points a game in his junior season.
Jacob Lucas from Lincoln County was also on the second team. The junior for the Panthers scored 20.7 points per game.
Special mention selections included Huntington High senior Lambros Svingos who scored 14 points a game, Spring Valley senior Andy Burns who had a 10.6 scoring average and Hurricane's Jeff Barna, a senior averaging 12.1 points.
The honorable mention list had Huntington High junior J.J. Martin with a 13.6 scoring average, Cabell Midland senior Zach Jeffrey (10.8), Spring Valley senior Heath Booton (6.2), Hurricane senior Zach Statler (17.6) and Lincoln County senior Taylor Dunlap (13.1).
Malik Witten from Capital who averaged 16.6 points as a senior, was named as the MSAC player of the year.
Coach of the year honors went to Craig Harmon of Ripley who guided the Vikings to a 14-9 season.
