HUNTINGTON -- Marshall and Akron played to a 1-1 overtime tie Sunday in women's soccer at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Erin Simmons scored a first-half goal for the Thundering Herd (2-1-1) and Lani Smith struck for the Zips (2-1-1) in the second half. Neither team could score a golden goal in overtime.

Junior Myka DeMarco set up the goal for Simmons, who struck from about a yard out in the 27th minute. DeMarco has two assists.

Smith, a transfer from South Carolina, took a pass from Karina Atkinson and fired a shot in the left corner of the goal in the 71st minute.

Lizzie Kish started in goal for Marshall and made six saves. Akron keeper Klaire Adee stopped eight shots.

Marshall returns to action next weekend with a two-game road trip to Philadelphia. The Herd faces Temple on Friday and LaSalle on Sunday.
