C-USA athletes of the year
HUNTINGTON — NCAA indoor and outdoor pole vault champion Jason Colwick from the Rice men’s track and field team was one of three Conference USA Athlete of the Year award winners.
East Carolina softball player Toni Paisley and Tulane volleyball player Sara Radosevic were also recognized.
Colwick captured the NCAA indoor pole vault title by clearing 18-feet, 4.5 inches. The junior from San Marcos, Texas, followed by going over 18-8.25 to win the outdoor championship.
He recently placed sixth at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at 18-6.5.
Paisley was named as the C-USA Pitcher of the Year. The sophomore from Lakewood, Calif., had a 30-9 record and 1.22 ERA. She led the conference in wins, innings pitched (270.2), earned run average, opponents' batting average (.177) and strikeouts (297).
Nationally, she ranked seventh in wins, 11th in ERA, and 30th in shutouts (9).
Radosevic, a native of Zagreb, Croatia, led Tulane to its first C-USA tournament championship.
She led the Green Wave in points (528.0), kills (456), kills per set (3.62) and service aces (42), while ranking second in digs (327) and digs per set (2.60), and fifth in both blocks (38) and blocks per set (0.44). She had 28 double-digit kill matches, including 25 against Western Michigan in the NCAA tournament.
