Soccer players earn All-Academic honors

HUNTINGTON -- Kristen Berquist, Erika Duncan and Molly Snead from Marshall women's soccer earned spots on the Conference USA All-Academic second team.

Student-athletes selected must have at least a 3.2 GPA and be either a staring player of key reserve on their teams.

Berqust is a junior accounting major with a 3.79 GPA. Duncan, also a junior, has a 3.40 GPA in adult fitness. Snead, a senior, has a 3.48 GPA in marketing.

Tolsia wins first sectional volleyball tournament

GLENHAYES, W.Va. -- Tolsia defeated Wayne to capture the first volleyball sectional tournament title in school history on Wednesday.

Both teams advance to the Class AA, Region IV tournament Saturday at Sissonville. First match is 10 a.m.

Tolsia (28-7) downed the Pioneers (17-18), 26-28, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20. Kara Pollinger led Tolsia with 23 points while Larissa Newsome and Rebecca Rowe scored 20 and 19 respectively. Wayne's top scorers were Jennifer Webb with 19 and Alex Hill with 15.

The Rebels also beat Tug Valley, 25-9, 25-21, 25-8. Newsome had 17 points. Pollinger scored 16 and Kayla Beeney added 14.
