HUNTINGTON -- Huntington High's defense of the Class AAA softball state championship begins today in the Region IV, Section 4 playoff being hosted by the Highlanders.

Spring Valley and Cabell Midland meet at 6 p.m. and the winner advances to face Huntington High at 8 p.m.

Class AAA, Region IV, Section 3 games today at Lincoln County are the host Panthers against Winfield at 5 p.m. followed by the winner taking on Hurricane at 7 p.m.

Wayne is hosting the first round of the Class AA, Region IV, Section 4 tournament. Tug Valley and the host Pioneers play at 5 p.m. today and the winner plays Tolsia at 7 p.m.

Huntington St. Joe and Charleston Catholic are the only teams in Class A, Region IV, Section 2. They play at doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.

West Virginia sectionals are all double-elimination.

Ohio's first round of Division III single-elimination sectional tournaments begin Monday for Fairland, Coal Grove and Ironton. Chesapeake, South Point and Rock Hill play May 15. Symmes Valley has a Division IV game May 16.
