Wayne's Adams has perfect game in win

WAYNE -- Wayne freshman pitcher Kayla Adams tossed a perfect game Friday and the Pioneers blanked Tug Valley, 14-0, in the Class AA Region IV, Section 4 playoffs.

Wayne (6-18) scored 10 runs in the first inning when it sent 14 batters to the plate on its way to a five-inning mercy rule win.

Marilyn Hale and Emily Thompson both had two-run doubles in the first inning. Katie Thompson, Adams and Alyssa Lycans had RBI singles.

Tug Valley is 1-11.

The second game was rained out. Play resumes Monday in the double-elimination sectional.

ST. JOE DELAYED: Rain halted play in the bottom of the second in the Class A Region IV, Section 2 playoff game between Huntington St. Joe and Charleston Catholic at Buffalo Putnam. Teams will resume play at 6 p.m. Monday with the score tied 1-1.

LINCOLN COUNTY WINS 2: Alex Lawson hit a sacrifice fly to score Haley Bills in the bottom of the seventh to lead Lincoln County past Winfield, 2-1, in Class AA Region IV, Section 3 action Thursday.

Shayla Owens tossed a complete game. She gave up three hits and struck out nine. Melanie Midkiff hit a solo home run for the Panthers.

Jennifer Francis drove in the run for the Generals.

In the second game, Kayla Smith went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Lincoln County past Hurricane, 8-5. Alyssa Cook added two hits for the Panthers (19-10).

Kelsy Martin went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs for Hurricane (14-9).
