CHARLESTON -- Hurricane girls and Parkersburg boys claimed team championships Friday in the rain-shortened Mountain State Athletic Conference track and field meet at Laidley Field.

Hurricane took the girls title with 96 points. Cabell Midland was the runner-up with 70, Parkersburg 68, Woodrow Wilson 65, Captial 39, Ripley 26, Spring Valley 24, Greenbrier East 19, St. Albans 13 and Huntington High 11.

Danielle Winningham of Cabell Midland took high point honors for the girls with 241/2. Winningham won the 400 with a time of 57.85 seconds while placing third in the 100 (12.92) and 200 (26.85).

Cabell Midland won the 4x400 relay race with the team of Rachel Williams, Kinsey Hall, Elayna Conard and Winningham clocked in 4:11.35.

Alex Dent of Hurricane was the 1600 winner with a time of 5:08.27.

Hurricane won the 4x800 relay with Sahara Assi, Dent, Sarah Davis and Josie Crouch posting a time of 10:08.57.

Parkersburg boys compiled 78 points in their meet. Runner-up St. Albans followed with 70. Huntington High was third with 58 and Cabell Midland fourth with 41.

Huntington High sprinter Daniel Brown won the 100 (11.06) and 200 (23.25). Brown was also fifth in the 400 (53.54).

The Huntington Highlanders were first in the 4x100 relay with Tyler Hutchison, C.J. Crawford, Tajh Goulds and Brown crossing the finish line in 44.57.

Cabell Midland had two boys' event winners, Trey Beckett in the 1600 (4:28.05) and Cole Bowers in the shot put (50-21/2).

Most of the same schools will compete Thursday in the Class AAA, Region IV meet at Hurricane.
