High school boys roundup: Tolsia bests Wayne in clash of county rivals

GLENHAYES, W.Va. -- Tolsia broke from a 41-41 tie with a 13-4 run and went on to defeat Wayne, 63-54, in a Tuesday boys basketball game.

Tolsia (3-4) improved its all-time record against Wayne to 50-1.

Austin Richardson (15), Jacob Copley (13) and Derrick Robertson (12) were double-figure scorers for the Rebels.

Neil Dillon scored 16 and Chase Perry added 12 for the Pioneers (5-3). Perry also had 10 rebounds.

WAYNE 14 11 14 15 -- 54: Dillon 16, Meddings 6, Merritt 4, Sutherland 8, Perry 12, Harshbarger 8.

TOLSIA 16 12 9 26 -- 63: Richardson 15, Robertson 12, Copley 13, V. Salmons 6, J. Salmons 9, Maynard 7, Stroud 1.

RIVER VALLEY 65, FAIRLAND 61: Cody Johnson's 22 points helped River Valley hold off the Dragons.

River Valley (6-4) also had Cody McAvena with 16 points and Clayton Curnutte with 11.

Matt Bloomfield paced Fairland (2-2) with 14 points. Zach Jordan scored 12 and Tyler Godby added 11.

COAL GROVE 51, ROCK HILL 35: Coal Grove outrebounded Rock Hill, 32-20, and forced 23 turnovers to level its record at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the OVC.

Devin Monnier led Coal Grove with 11 points, followed by Dane Haukendahl with 10. Point guard Eric Edens totaled 10 assists.

Rock Hill (4-6) was paced by Brandon Klaiber's 12 points. Luke Simpson added 11.

LEWIS COUNTY 83, BOYD COUNTY 67: Terrence Smith scored 27 points and Koty Riley added 16 points and 13 rebounds for Lewis County (8-10). Teammate Frankie Whitten scored 13 points, followed by Chris Thompson with 12.

Cody Miller led Boyd County (3-10) with 14 points, and Trevor Hall added 13.

SYMMES VALLEY 72, PORTSMOUTH NOTRE DAME 69: Justin Tibbs' dominant performance, featuring 28 points and 15 rebounds, led Symmes Valley to a Southern Ohio Conference victory.

Luke Taylor also boasted a double-double for Symmes Valley (4-5, 3-2) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Justin Payne scored 10 points.

Portsmouth Notre Dame (5-4, 3-2) was led by Kevin Delaber with 20 points and Aaron Noel with 18. Taylor Fitch added 12 points.
