Sports in brief: Walker involved in contested NBDL game

January 14, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Bill Walker of Huntington is back in the NBA, but has some unfinished business in the NBA Development League.

Walker, a rookie second-round draft pick, appeared in two early-season games with the Boston Celtics before he was assigned to the Utah Flash of the NBDL.

The Flash protested a 104-102 loss to Colorado on Dec. 26 after Walker was incorrectly disqualified by fouls with 25.2 seconds left. It should only have been his fifth foul; a foul against teammate J.R. Giddens with 9:24 remaining in the second quarter was mistakenly credited to Walker by the 14ers' official scorer.

The NBDL granted Utah's protest and ordered the teams to replay the final 25.2 seconds of the game, with the score tied at 102, The Associated Press reported.

The replay will occur April 10 in Utah, with the teams' regularly scheduled game to follow.

Giddens and Walker have since been recalled to the NBA by the Celtics. The Flash will be able to use any available players if they aren't reassigned for the rematch.

Walker appeared in 15 games for the Flash averaging a team-high 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.33 steals in 30.5 minutes per game.
