HOUSTON - The University of Houston pounded out 16 hits Saturday en route to a 10-5 baseball victory and three-game sweep over Marshall, capping the regular season.
The Conference USA Championship Tournament is next for Marshall (26-28, 10-13-1 C-USA). The No. 6 seed Thundering Herd will play the No. 3 seed and host Tulane at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Houston (34-21, 14-10), which clinched the No. 4 seed in the C-USA Championship, received four-hit games from designated hitter/pitcher Bryan Tully (4-for-4) and catcher Chris Wallace (4-for-5). Wallace and third baseman Bryan Pounds tallied three RBIs apiece in the contest.
Five different Marshall players drove in runs. Adam Yeager and Jeff Rowley each had two hits for the Thundering Herd. Yeager's triple was his fifth of the season, tied for second on the all-time MU single-season list. He also stole his 38th base of the season, which is two shy of tying the school's single-season record (40 by Chris Monaco, 2004).
