COLUMBUS, Ohio - Seven extra-base hits powered Ohio State University to an 8-1 baseball victory over Marshall in Wednesday's rain-shortened game at Bill Davis Stadium.
Three doubles highlighted a four-run second inning for the Buckeyes (25-21). Marshall's lone run was scored in the third when Ben Jurevicius tripled and scored on Adam Yeager's sacrifice fly. The Thundering Herd dropped to 24-25-1.
Buckeyes' starter Andrew Armstrong (4-3) earned the win, while Herd starter Ian Kadish (1-2) suffered the loss in the contest that ended after five innings because of inclement weather. The game was delayed 22 minutes in the second inning by rain.
Herd reliever Andrew Hancock replaced Kadish in the fourth. Kadish allowed four runs on six hits. Wednesday marked the 66th appearance for Hancock, who currently holds the third spot on Marshall's career-appearance list.
Marshall returns to action Friday for the first game of a non-conference series with Delaware State. Game time is 3 p.m. at the Kennedy Center on Route 2 in Huntington.
