MU women ready to take field again
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University women's soccer is back on its new Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex pitch Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Kent State.
Marshall (1-0-0) won Friday in the inaugural match at the new facility, defeating Campbell University, 3-0, before a standing-room crowd of 1,433.
Erin Simmons, Beth Dine and Kayla Byrnside scored the Thundering Herd goals while keeper Lizzie KIsh made three saves in the shutout.
Kent State (1-0-0) defeated St. Bonaventure on Friday, 3-2, with freshman Jenna Hellstrom scoring the winning goal in the 76th minute.
Hellstrom had two goals while Madison Hetterbran scored one.
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall had a Green and White volleyball intra-squad scrimmage Saturday afternoon in Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall opens the season Friday and Saturday in the Jefferson Cup tournament at the University of Virginia. Marshall plays the host Cavaliers on Friday (7 p.m.) before meeting Montana and James Madison on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. respectively.
