HUNTINGTON — Jeremy Cummings, a resident of the East Pea Ridge section of Huntington, was named Wednesday as a member of the U.S. Olympic Baseball Team.

Cummings, 31, pitches for the Triple-A Durham (N.C.) Bulls of the International League.

He is living in Huntington while completing work on an undergraduate degree at Marshall University. His wife, Kelly, attends the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.

His parents are Bambi and Jeff Slack from the Teays Valley area of Putnam County.

The 1995 graduate of South Charleston High School pitched at West Virginia University, where he was an All-Big East Conference selection in 1999.

USA Baseball completed the 24-member Olympic team roster Wednesday by selecting Colorado Rockies second baseman Jayson Nix.

Cummings was picked as one of three replacements for players named to the initial roster.
