Whaley adding to remarkable story

August 02, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

The Herald-Dispatch

HUNTINGTON -- Maybe author Ken Gordon will need another chapter in his book.

Gordon, a sports writer for The Columbus Dispatch, wrote a paperback about Tyler Whaley's rise from an Ironton High School football player who was considered too short and too slow for major college football and whose determination led to a key role on the 2007 Ohio State team that played for the national championship.

"Buckeye Dreams: The Tyler 'Tank' Whaley Story" isn't available in stores yet, but copies are available online from Amazon.com, Target.com, Shop.com and others.

Whaley, 23, is currently with the Cincinnati Bengals in training camp at Georgetown (Ky.) College as a rookie free agent trying to earn an NFL job.

Visitors to training camp can look for No. 38. The 5-foot-11, 252-pound Whaley is listed third on the depth chart at fullback.
