Marshall clinic for girls set on Feb. 3
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University's annual Sweetheart Clinic for young girls is Feb. 3 in the Marshall Recreation Center.
Participants age 4 to 12 will move through nine stations in age groups with coaches and student-athletes from Marshall women's teams teaching developmental skills.
The free clinic begins at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with a pizza party and pep rally led by the Thundering Herd cheerleaders before a 2 p.m. women's basketball game against Memphis in Cam Henderson Center. Each participant will receive a clinic T-shirt.
Clinic participants will be admitted to the women's basketball game free. Family members and others can purchase tickets for $3.
Girls must pre-register at HerdZone.com. No walk-ups will be accepted. Registration will be capped at 165 participants.
Registration begins Monday and continues until Jan. 14 or whenever the clinic is filled.
Marshall originated the clinic in 1998 as recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Since its inception more than 1,850 girls have participated.
The 2013 clinic is presented by Marshall Athletics, Marshall Recreation Center, Marshall Maniacs, Pepsi, Little Caesar's. Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Valley Health and Med Express.
