Tulsa wins conference food drive

January 26, 2013 @ 11:30 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Tulsa won a Conference USA canned food drive by collecting more than 12,000 pounds of donations during the "Let's SAAC Hunger" program.

The food drive was a project of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at each school.

Each school worked within their community to collect canned food for one week during the fall semester. Schools selected a local food bank to receiver their donations.

More than 33 tons of food, which equates to more than 55,000 meals, was collected conference-wide.

Tulsa collected 12,240 pounds of food for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Marshall student-athletes collected 1,569 pounds for the Huntington Area Food Bank. Collections were made in November at some Thundering Herd basketball games, at the Kroger store on Seventh Avenue at First Street and at Memorial Student Center.
