Godfrey retains title at Spartan Fighting 17
ASHLAND -- Two pro champions made successful title defenses Saturday night at the Spartan Fighting Champonship 17 at the Kentucky National Guard Armory.
The Homecoming marked the Spartan's return to the armory and fans packed the house for the seven-bout show.
Augusta Tindall (3-1) and Cornelius Godfrey (7-1) won to retain their titles in the pro bouts. Chris Tucker beat William Hale to become Spartan's new welterweight champion. Tucker rocked Hale with a devastating uppercut in the first round and Hale failed to answer the bell for the second round.
Ethan McGee and Bo Preece went at it for three runs and McGee prevailed by split decision to take Preece's amateur featherweight crown and become only the second person in Spartan history to hold two titles simultaneously.
Tindall kept his lightweight title when he knocked out J.P. Felty 48 seconds into the fourth round.
In the main event, Godfrey dominated B.J. Ferguson Jr. for five rounds and won by unanimous decision to hold onto his bantamweight title.
