Marshall women go for two in row
ORLANDO -- Marshall's Thundering Herd not only notched its first Conference USA women's basketball victory Sunday against Memphis, it also gave itself a chance to escape the league basement.
Marshall (7-13, 1-6) and UCF (7-14, 1-6) meet Thursday in a battle of teams tied for last place.
The 7 p.m. contest in UCF Arena is televised on Fox College Sports Atlantic, which is Ch. 171 on Huntington cable.
Ironically, the Herd and Knights both defeated Memphis.
Marshall beat the Tigers, 55-53, in Cam Henderson Center. UCF won Sat Memphis, 70-65.
Sophomore guard Shay Weaver is the Marshall scoring leader with 10.0 points per game. Chukwuka Ezeigbo, a 6-foot-3 sophomore forward, averages 8.6 points and tops the Herd with 6.5 rebounds a game.
Suporia Dickens, Leandra King, Erica Woods and Orlandria Williams all score more than five points per game.
Briahanna Jackson is a 5-4 freshman guard for UCF with a 14.6 scoring average. Senior guard Genevia Carter averages 13.1 points while 6-2 junior center Erika Jones scores 7.1 and gets 7.8 rebounds.
