Cabell Midland falls to Redskins

HURRICANE -- Garrett Defries of Hurricane took game honors with 21 points Tuesday in a 75-69 boys basketball defeat of Cabell Midland.

The Redskins (16-5) also had double figures from Rasaan Harris (16) and Trey Dawson (11).

Cabell Midland (6-16) had Sawyer Beckett and Niles Dailey with 14 points each. Dakota Leonard tossed in 13 and Coy Petitt had 11.

The Knights will play Lincoln County in a sectional tournament game Monday at Huntington High.

CABELL MIDLAND 6 23 18 22 -- 69: Perry 9, Matthews 2, Petitt 11, Beckett 14, Leonard 13, Dailey 14, Adkins 6.

HURRICANE 15 21 19 20 -- 75: Sorsaia 9, Harris 16, Dawson 11, Defries 21, Corey 5, Estep 7, Miles 6.

BOYD COUNTY 69, FAIRVIEW 59: Boyd County moved into the 64th District tournament finals.

Austin Hunt put up 30 points for the Lions and Brandon Taylor had 17.

Fairview was led by Isaiah King's 29 points.

Ashland beat Rose Hill, 83-25, in the first game.

Boyd County and Ashland meet in the district championship game at 7 p.m., Friday, at Boyd County Middle School. Both teams will advance to the Region 16 playoffs in Morehead.

WAHAMA 85, HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 77: Michael Mayes had a career-high 37 points and knocked down seven 3-pointers for St. Joe, but it wasn't enough as the Irish fell to Wahama.

Wahama (9-12) was led by Trenton Gibbs with 25 points and Hunter Bradley with 20. Jacob Ortiz and Austin Jordan both added 15.

St. Joe (2-19) also got 13 points from Wulf Goheen, and saw the return of Lakin Brooks from an acl injury. Brooks scored six.

TUG VALLEY 58, MONTCALM 32: Adreana Vance scored 22 for the Panthers in a Class A, Region III, Section 1 tournament victory. Hannah Armstrong followed with 16 and Amber Linville scored 13.

Miranda Kendrck led Montcalm with 13 points.

Tug Valley (14-8) hosts Man at 7 p.m., Thursday, in the seconal finals. Man advanced with a 52-22 win over Sherman.
