Rabel's career-high 27 lead St. Joe boys

BUFFALO, W.Va. -- Anthony Rabel scored a career-high 27 points and Huntington St. Joe blew a one-point game wide-open in the second half to beat Hannan 77-50 and advance in the Class A, Region IV, Section 2 tournament at Buffalo-Putnam High School on Monday night.

Rabel dominated play down low for the Irish, who outscored Hannan 44-18 in the second half to pick up their third win of the season.

In addition to Rabel's output, Huntington St. Joe also got strong contributions from Michael Mayes and Paul Dransfeld, who added 19 and 14 points respectively.

The Irish took a slim 33-32 lead into the locker room after a back-and-forth first half for both sides. However, the team seized control in the second half when Huntington St. Joe broke out for 23 points in the third quarter.

Paul Holley added 16 points and Tyler Burns netted 13 to lead Hannan, whose season ended at 4-19.

Huntington St. Joe (3-20) moves on to the section semifinals at Charleston Catholic, ranked No. 2 in the final Class A poll this week. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

POINT PLEASANT 67, ST. ALBANS 53: Dylan McCarty scored 21 points and Point Pleasant used a big third quarter to pull away from St. Albans in the Class AAA, Region IV, Section 1 play-in game at Point Pleasant High School on Monday night.

The Big Blacks outscored the Red Dragons 19-7 in the third quarter to turn a three-possession game into a 20-point spread heading to the final period.

In addition to McCarty's output, Point Pleasant (13-10) got 14 points from Alex Sommerville and 13 from Wade Martin.

Point Pleasant travels to take on No. 1 Hurricane at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Nathan McNeil led St. Albans with 18 points in the loss.
