Youth softball teams in regionals

HUNTINGTON — West Virginia champion Ona/Hite-Saunders begins play Thursday at the Little League Softball (age 11-12) All-Star Southeastern Regional tournament in Warner Robins, Ga.

Ona/Hite-Saunders plays a Pool B game against Alabama champion Sylacauga at 1 p.m., Thursday.
Other pool play games are Friday (10 a.m.) against McLean (Va.) and Saturday (1 p.m.) against Morristown (Tenn.).

Pool A has Toccoa (Ga.), Wilkes County (N.C.) American, Irmo (S.C.) and Keystone (Fla.).

Consolation and semifinal games are Sunday.

The championship game is Monday with the winner gaining a World Series berth, Aug. 8-14, in Portland, Ore.

Junior League
East Huntington/Little League 3 represents West Virginia in the Junior League Softball (age 13-16) tournament beginning Saturday in Fort Myers, Fla.

Cape Coral (Fla.) Softball Little League plays the West Virginia champion Saturday at 12:45 p.m. to begin pool play.

Sunday’s game (10 a.m.) is against Morristown (Tenn.) American/National and a Monday game (8 p.m.) is against Matthews County (Va.).

Teams in Pool A are Rutherford (N.C.), Toccoa (Ga.) and South Tampa (Fla.).

Pool winners and runners-up square off Tuesday and the championship is Wednesday.

The winner goes to the World Series, Aug. 11-17, in Kirkland, Wash.
