December 05, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University's passing and receiving combination of Rakeem Cato and Tommy Shuler received first team honors on the All-Conference USA football team selected by league head coaches.

Marshall also had tight end Gator Hoskins, receiver Aaron Dobson and strong safety Dominick LeGrande on the all-conference second team. Marshall players on the honorable mention list were offensive linemen Chris Jasperse, Jordan Jeffries and Alex Schooler; receiver Antavious Wilson; defensive linemen Alex Bazzie and Brandon Sparrow; safety Okechukwu Okoroha; and kicker Justin Haig.

The C-USA All-Freshman team included Marshall running back Kevin Grooms, offensive lineman Cameron Dees, linebacker D.J. Hunter and punter Tyler Williams.

Cato leads the FBS in completions per game (33.83) and passing yards per game (350.08) and is third in TD passes (37), fifth in total offense per game (352.67) and completion percentage (69.5).

The Thundering Herd sophomore led a unit that is second in the nation in third-down conversion percentage (54.59) and first downs per game (29.42) and his 66.2 percent career completion mark (588 of 888) is the best in school history.

Shuler, also a sophomore, is tied for second nationally with 9.17 catches per game and his 110 total receptions set a school record.

Hoskins caught 10 touchdown passes as a junior, the most in the nation among tight ends.

Dobson ended his career with 24 touchdown receptions, tying former NFL star Troy Brown for fourth in the Marshall record book. He caught 57 passes despite missing virtually all of two games because of a leg injury, but was invited to play in the Senior Bowl showcase for NFL scouts.

In one season as a Marshall graduate transfer from Boston College, LeGrande averaged 11.0 tackles per game and intercepted two passes.
