Boxing show set Oct. 10 at Chesapeake center
CHESAPEAKE, Ohio -- An amateur boxing show will be held Oct. 10 at the Chesapeake Community Center. Bell time for the Southern Ohio Golden Gloves Fall Brawl is 3 p.m.
Noah Kirk, who's currently training boxers at no charge, will use the proceeds to buy equipment and for travel expenses.
Zach Bartrum of Chesapeake will compete as will fighters from Huntington, Salt Rock, Ashland, Lexington, Louisville, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Defiance, Toledo, Zanesville and Columbus.
Admission is $10 for adults and $100 for ringside tables. For more details, call Kirk at 606-831-4128.
Fairland ready to host Jim Mayo reunion
PROCTORVILLE, Ohio -- The Jim Mayo Football Reunion will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at Fairland Middle School (old Fairland High School).
The reunion is for anyone who played for Mayo at Fairland or South Point. It also is open to any coaches, managers and community members who worked on the stadium, locker rooms or concession stands.
Mayo coached at Fairland from 1965 through 1978 and at South Point from 1983-1986.

Wrestling show coming up at Big Sandy Arena
HUNTINGTON -- WWE makes a return to Huntington on Oct. 11, with a Smackdown/ECW Live show at Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Bell time is 5 p.m.
Two titles will be on the line. CM Punks defends the World Heavyweight title against Rey Mysterio.
John Morrison, who just won the Intercontinental Championship, makes a title defense against Dolph Ziggler, who teammed with the Miz to beat Morrison and Kofi Kingston in a tag match on Friday night Smackdown.
An ECW Six-Man Tag match pits champion Christian, Tommy Dreamer and Hurricane against William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel.
Other WWE superstars scheduled to appear include Kane, R-Truth, Cryme Tyme, The Hart Dynasty, women's champion Michelle McCool, The Bellas and Melina. Matches are subject to change.
Ticket prices are $62, $42, $27, $17 (include $2 facility fee). Tickets are available at the arena box office, ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000.
Entries accepted for 500 Club tournament

Huntington's Reese wins skeet shooting
WINFIELD -- Jim Reese of Huntington won the 20-Gauge West Virginia Skeet Shooting event held Saturday at the Sportsman Gun Club. Reese, a former All-American Skeet Team member, broke 99 out of 100 clay pigeons. That gives him 14 West Virginia state titles during his shooting career.
Soccer skills contest set at Kennedy Center
HUNTINGTON -- Local qualifying in the Elks 313 Soccer Shoot is Saturday, Oct. 10, at the YMCA Kennedy Center.
The soccer shoot is a contest for playes age 4 to 13. The program is designed to sharpen skills for shooting goals from the penalty line.
Competition is from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Local winners advance to the West Virginia Elks State Soccer Shoot at a location to be determined.
