HUNTINGTON — As high school football teams get into the second half of the season, the focus begins to shift toward the playoffs.

With several Tri-State teams positioning for the playoffs each game becomes critical toward reaching that goal.

West Virginia Class AAA top-rated Cabell Midland and fourth-rated Huntington High are in action Friday along with the annual Ohio rivalry contest of Chesapeake at Fairland and a pivotal West Virginia Class AA matchup of Wayne at Scott.

Following is a look at some games:

Huntington High (4-1)

at Woodrow Wilson (3-2)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Van Meter Stadium

What to watch -- Huntington High: The Highlanders are coming off a bye week following an emotional loss to Cabell Midland two weeks ago. If they come out flat, they will be in trouble. Van Meter Stadium is a hard place to win. Woodrow Wilson: Quarterback Andrew Johnson is one of the most under-appreciated athletes in the state.

Winfield (2-4) at

Cabell Midland (6-0)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Knights Stadium

Radio: WCMI 92.7-FM, 98.5-FM The Planet

What to watch -- Winfield: The Generals have lost two straight and need a win to keep playoff hopes alive. Cabell Midland: Coming off a record-setting performance, running back David Gaydosz gets to face his former team. Think he'll be excited?

Spring Valley (3-2) at

George Washington (4-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Patriots Field

Radio: WFGH 90.7-FM

What to watch -- Spring Valley: Elijah Wellman has had some monster games this year. He'll have to play his best on both sides to keep the Timberwolves in it. George Washington: Running back Ryan Switzer is hands down the best skill player and most dangerous player in the state, but the key for the Patriots is two-way standout Dustin Crouser.

Wayne (5-0)

at Scott (6-0)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Skyhawks Stadium

What to watch -- Wayne: The Pioneers have averaged nearly 50 points a game in the first half this season, but the starters haven't been forced to play a full four quarters yet. Does that hurt the team in this one? Scott: The Skyhawks' offense has produced nearly 37 points a game, but can the team produce enough points to stay with the Pioneers?

Chesapeake (2-4)

at Fairland (3-3)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Dragons Stadium

What to watch -- Chesapeake: The 2012 road show continues for the Panthers, who would love nothing more than to get a win on their rivals' turf. Fairland: After losing three straight, the Dragons got back on track with a win over South Point last week.

Bishop Watterson (3-3)

at Ironton (5-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Tanks Memorial Stadium

Radio: WIRO 1230-AM, WTCR 1420-AM

What to watch -- Bishop Watterson: The alma mater of former Herald-Dispatch sports writer Andrew Ramspacher is a solid team that has faced some of Ohio's best in the early part of the season. Ironton: Coming off their first loss against Johnson Central, the Fighting Tigers will face a staunch test from a strong defense this week.
