South Charleston ice arena to host skating exhibition
CHARLESTON -- A figure skating exhibition featuring area skaters is scheduled from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena.
Admission is free for the Charleston Figure Skating Club event, but people can make donations of food or toiletry items for the Heart and Hand Community Service Center.
The South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena is off U.S. 119 (Corridor G) just past Target at the Shops of Trace.Fork.
The exhibition will feature local skaters who have progressed to regional, sectional and national competition levels performing their jumps, spins, lifts and footwork in the disciplines of freestyle, ice dancing and synchronized skating.
Devan Tighe and Marlo Weisberg, who competed in the Solo Dance Series last summer.
Madison Dean, who competed the past three years at National Showcase events in Ohio, Massachusetts and California.
Jocelyn Cabuatan, Elena Compton and Constance Gerstle, who will all soon compete at the South Atlantic Regional Competition in Wake Forest, N.C.
Caroline Leadmon and Jacob Schedl, who competed as a team in Ice Dance for the past two years at the US Figure Skating Junior Nationals.
West Virginia Synchro, the state's only synchronized skating team, which represents the Charleston Figure Skating Club in several competitions including Mountain State Synchro Skate in South Charleston in November, and the Eastern regional championships in Lake Placid, N.Y., in January. Team members are Devan Tighe, Jocelyn Cabuatan, Lexi Lipscomb, Olivia Ford, Katie Legg, Carly Smith, Jessie Foster, Alyssa Hudson, Emily Adkins, Abby Howat, Ciara Drummer and Madison Dean.
