HUNTINGTON -- The team of Morgantown's Bob Gwynne, Bob Friend, Eric Swart and Jeff Livoski won the first place in the gross division in the 15th Campbell Classic Scholarship Tournament held in the rain and cold Monday at Guyan Golf and Country Club.
The tournament featured 15 four-person teams. The format was the best two gross and net balls of the team. Created by the West Virginia Golf Foundation in 1997, the tournament is named in honor of Huntington native Bill Campbell for his international accomplishments in amateur golf.
Gwynne, Friend, Swart and Livoski posted a 3-under 139. Hurricane's Harold Payne, Rusty Sovine, Joe Doddridge and Huntington's Pat Carter placed second.
In the net division, Ed Robinson, Art Kirkendoll, Paul Hardesty and Leonard shot 109 to win. Kenny Phillips, Earl Lambert, David Watkins and Dave Watkins came in second. That team won the 2011 gross title.
Campbell Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students based on merit and involvement in golf. Moundsville's Eli Lambie and Hurricane's Logan Williams are the 2012 recipients and each received $5,000 scholarships.
