Baldwin is minor league all-star
HUNTINGTON -- Minor league baseball pitcher Zach Baldwin of Barboursville was selected for today's Northern League All-Star Game.
Baldwin, 25, is a left-hander for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The All-Star Game at Canwest Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba matches the I-29 Team of players from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Kansas City T-Bones and Winnipeg Goldeyes against the Chicagoland Team consisting of players from the Gary Southshore RailCats, Joliet JackHammers and Schaumburg Flyers.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Baldwin is 4-1 this season with a 3.31 ERA in 10 appearances with nine starts. In 54.1 innings he allowed 56 hits and 24 runs (20 earned) with 26 strikeouts and 14 walks.
All-Star Game festivities began Monday with a skills competition and youth clinic conducted by the players.
Winnipeg manager Rick Forney was named to lead the I-29 team that includes Baldwin and 10 other Goldeyes.
Baldwin signed with Winnipeg of the independent Northern League after two years in the Washington Nationals system.
He won two West Virginia Conference Pitcher of the Year awards at West Virginia State University. He was 18-0 in two seasons with the Yellow Jackets. He also pitched two years at Coastal Carolina University.
