Marshall's Hively wins league honor with hits

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall's Alysia Hively has been named Conference USA softball's Hitter of the Week.

The senior first baseman hit .417 last week as the Thundering Herd won at Radford, then swept Southern Miss in a three-game C-USA series at Dot Hicks Field. Hively knocked in six runs, had 12 total bases and a 1.00 slugging percentage.

In the finale against Southern Miss, Hively belted two homers. The second was a two-run, walk-off shot in the seventh go give Marshall an 8-6 victory.

This is the first Hitter of the Week honor for Hively, who is from Clay, W.Va., and played at Clay County High School.

Fairland boys earn AP honors for basketball

HUNTINGTON -- A pair of Fairland players were recognized by the Associated Press for their successful basketball seasons on Monday.

Senior Evan Maddox was named as a Division II All-Ohio Special Honorable Mention selection, as released by the Associated Press on Monday evening.

Teammate Cody Midkiff was recognized as a Division II All-Ohio Honorable Mention choice as well.

The duo helped lead Fairland to a 17-7 record and a berth in the Division II district semifinals where they fell to Vinton County.

Fairland also was co-champion of the Ohio Valley Conference this season.
