C-USA teams win 3 of 4 in tourney action
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Conference USA tournament runner-up Southern Miss (26-9), one of four No. 1 seeds in the National Invitation Tournament, won a first round game in Reed Green Coliseum.
Jonathan Mills and Dwayne Davis led the Golden Eagles with 16 and 15 points respectively.
Southern Miss will host Louisiana Tech (27-6) in the second round.
The Buccanners from the Big South Conference finished the season at 19-13.
TULANE 83, SOUTH ALABAMA 73: Tulane forward Josh Davis scored 26 and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Green Wave defeated visiting South Alabama, 84-73, in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
Kendall Timmons and Ricky Tarrant both added 13 points for Tulane (20-14) against the Jaguars (17-13).
A crowd of 1,682 attended in Devlin Fieldhouse.
HOUSTON 73, TEXAS 72: Houston forward Danuel House hit a jump shot with 17 seconds remaining against the visiting Longhorns in a College Basketball Invitational game in Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars (20-12) were led by Joseph Young's 18 points and TaShawn Thomas with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Texas finished at 16-18.
WRIGHT STATE 72, TULSA 52: The Raiders (22-12) took a College Basketball Invitational victory at home in the Nutter Center.
Tulsa (17-16) was led by Scott Haralson with 13 points. James Woodard added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
