Herd hosting UAB for weekend series
CHARLESTON -- Marshall University baseball plays host to UAB for a Conference USA weekend series at Appalachian Power Park.
Games are Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $7.
Marshall (10-13) is opening its conference schedule against the Blazers (10-14, 0-3 C-USA) who lost all three games last weekend against UCF.
Chase Boster (1-3, 3,72 ERA) pitches Friday for Marshall, followed by C-USA Pitcher of the Week Aaron Blair (3-1, 2.83) on Saturday and Michael Taylor (3-1, 1.45) on Sunday.
UAB will throw Tanner Bryant (2-2, 2.84) on Friday.
Marshall second baseman Andrew Dundon had three hits in each of his last two games that lifted his average to .341. Isaac Ballou has reached base in 15 consecutive games.
UAB boasts C-USA's second-best hitter John Frost with a .368 average.
Five UAB pitchers combined on a four-hitter Tuesday in a 1-0 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall puts a school-record 10-game softball season win streak on the line Friday against Memphis at Dot Hicks Field.
Friday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
Marshall (20-12, 6-3 Conference USA) has also won a school-record 17 consecutive home games dating back into the 2012 season.
Thundering Herd pitcher Andi Williamson has figured in 30 of this season's 32 decisions with a 19-11 record and 2.38 ERA.
Kaelynn Greene leads the Marshall hitters with a .344 average followed by Ashley Gue (.330) and Bri Anna Hope (.303). Alysia Hively is hitting .296 with six home runs and 17 RBIs.
Morgan Mosby leads the Memphis (14-22, 3-6) offense with a .336 average, two homers and 15 RBIs.
Ellen Roberts (7-14, 3.43) and Jordan Richwood (6-7, 4.04) pitch for the Tigers.
HUNTINGTON -- University of Pittsburgh interim head coach Michaela Kissell-Eddins, a former Marshall player, leads the Panthers into a Friday match against the Thundering Herd.
The 2 p.m. competition is set for the Brian David Fox Tennis Center on the Marshall campus weather permitting. If forced to move indoirs, the match will be played in the Huntington Tennis Club adjacent to the Huntington Mall.
Kissell-Eddins was named as Pitt's interim head coach in January. Her husband, Huntington native Jacob Eddins, is the interim assistant coach.
She was a teammate of Marshall players Dominika Zaprazna, Kara Kucin, Karlyn Timko and Maria Voscekova.
Pitt (8-6) also plays No. 38 VCU at Marshall at noon, Saturday. Marshall (8-9) plays the Panthers then takes on VCU at 11 a.m., Sunday.
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall plays the University of Charleston in an off-season volleyball scrimmage at 6 p.m., Friday, in Cam Henderson Center. Admission is free.
