Michigan's Burke wins Wooden Award
HUNTINGTON -- Michigan Wolverines sophomore guard Trey Burke was announced Friday as the winner of the John R. Wooden Award as the national men's basketball player of the year.
Burke has averaged 18.6 points and 6.8 assists per game for Michigan, which plays Saturday in the NCAA Final Four against Syracuse.
The Big Ten Conference Player of the Year is from Columbus, Ohio.
Burke had 2,808 points in Wooden Award voting by hundreds of national college basketball media and finished just ahead of runner-up Victor Oladipo of Indiana with 2,718.
