Mountain Thunder places second at ASA Junior Olympic softball tourney
HUNTINGTON -- Mountain Thunder 12-Under from Huntington placed second at the ASA Junior Olympic Eastern National softball tournament in Salem, Va.
Salem, the host team, defeated Mountain Thunder in the finals, 8-5.
Mountain Thunder had a 5-2 record in the tournament with victories against teams from New Jersey, New York, South Carolina and two wins in games against TNT from Branchland, W.Va. The losses were against teams from North Carolina and Virginia.
With the runner-up finish Mountain Thunder earned a berth for 2009 in the ASA national tournament.
TNT took third place and the West Virginia Wild 1s from Charleston were fifth.
West Virginia Wild 1s claimed the 10-Under championship while TNT Explosion was the runner-up.
TNT was seventh in the 14-Under division.
