Lions' Beacon named Cager of the Week
Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week's Cager of the week award to Elias Beacon of Teays Valley Christian School.
The Teays Valley Christian Lions have had continued success this season, providing us with our second male Cager of the Week award this year.
Junior point guard Elias Beacon is doing what he is supposed to be doing as the captain and leader of a 14-5 squad.
"It just ended up being a good few days for me. I wanted to get mentally prepared for my games this week so I looked into God's Word and found some inspiration to put my whole heart into playing games," said Beacon.
Elias scored 75 points in three games and notched back to back double-doubles in two of those. Beacon also racked up 15 rebounds, 16 steals, and 10 assists in that stretch.
"I went into this week trying to improve my play from last week where I wasn't playing my best basketball," he said.
Beacon couldn't help but credit his teammates with a lot of their recent success, "We have a very complete basketball team. Everyone has been stepping up and playing their role extremely well which has helped us win a lot of games so far."
Head Coach Jody Sowards couldn't be happier about his junior's performance saying, "He's a tremendous young man on the court and off the court. He's a leader in his class, academically he is sound with a 3.3 GPA, and he always strives for excellence in everything he does, especially his spiritual walk." He also added, "He has really played his role well and is developing into a great player. Even more exciting is that he's only a junior and we still have some great things to come with him."
When asked who he tries to model his play after, he responded, "Ty Lawson because he is really quick, can move the ball up the floor and is always looking to create shots for his teammates. That's how I try to play the game."
