HUNTINGTON -- Defending national champion Connecticut was picked to win the Big East Conference women's basketball regular season title.

Notre Dame received one first-place vote from the coaches.

All-Americans Maya More and Tina Charles lead the UConn Huskies.

Charles is a senior forward who joined Moore on the All-Big East preseason team. The NCAA Final Four's most outstanding player had a season of 16.5 points and 8.9 rebounds a game.

Lindsey Schrader and Ashley Barlow are Notre Dame's preseason all-conference team players. Schrader averaged 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds. Barlow led the team in points (12.7) and steals (70).

Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins was named as the Big East preseason freshman of the year. Diggins was the national player of the year at Washington High school in South Bend, Ind.

DePaul, which tied with Louisville for third in the conference preseason poll, is one of only seven schools who had NCAA tournament teams each of the last seven seasons. Deirdre Naughton (15.5 ppg) and Keisha Hampton (10.4) made the All-Big East preseason team.

Louisville comes off its best season ever. Louisville won a school-record 34 games and fell to UConn in the national championship game. Junior guard Deseree Byrd, a preseason honorable mention pick, is a key returning player.

Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and Georgetown were next in the coaches' voting.

Syracuse senior forward Nicole Michael is a three-time All-Big East honorable mention selection who made the preseason first team. Last season Michael averaged 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Big East coaches picked West Virginia for a ninth-place finish, but Liz Repella of the Mountaineers was a preseason all-conference selection. The junior guard led the team in scoring (16.5), rebounding (8.1) and blocked shots (21).

Marquette guard Angel Robinson joined the UConn duo as unanimous choices for the all-conference preseason team. Robinson, a junior, scored 13.9 points and about four assists a game. The Golden Eagles were 10th in the poll.

St. John's was picked to finish 12th followed by Villanova, Seton Hall, Providence and Cincinnati.
