Fairland's Aldridge third in Division II 100 hurdles
COLUMBUS -- Fairland's Jordan Aldridge finished third in the Division II 100-meter hurdles Saturday in the Ohio High School Track and Field Championships at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Aldridge got clocked in 15.06 in the finals to make All-Ohio. In the preliminaries on Friday, the junior won her heat with a time of 14.94. Aldridge qualified for the state by winning the regional title at Byesville in 14.91, a school record. A year ago, Aldridge finished 15th in this event in the state.
"Jordan really worked hard this year. She began to peak toward the end of the season and really ran great at both the regional and state meets, running her best times of the year at just the right time," Fairland girls coach Darah Snyder sad. "She broke the school record at the regional meet and never looked back. She is the kind of athlete that anyone would hope to coach and I am really proud of her and her accomplishments."
Alexis Geiger of Gallipolis won the Division II long jump with a leap of 17-103/4. In the 100, Geiger was eighth (13.09). Chesna Sykes of Columbus Bishop Hartley won (12.05). In the 4x200 relay, Geiger, Tonia Logan, Brea Close and Kara Jackson got seventh for the Blue Angels (1:44.99). Warrensville Heights won in 1:40.41.
On the boys side, Ironton's Lukas Morris was third in the high jump (6-4) and seventh in the long jump with a personal-best 21-5. Nathan Davis of Dayton Stivers cleared 6-7 to win the high jump and Korbin Smith of Delta soared 23-7 to make it two straight long jump titles.
On Friday, Ironton's Jon Monnig was seventh in the pole vault (14-0), tying the school record. Justin Gillum set the mark at the state meet in 2004 and Monnig first matched it earlier this season in a district meet. Crosby Schemenauer of Pemberville Eastwood cleared 15-3 to win the state. Eight vaulters went over 14 feet or better.
