Marshall comes back, gets split with Miami of Ohio

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall and Miami (Ohio) split a softball doubleheader Tuesday at Dot Hicks Field.

The RedHawks (22-17) won the first game, 8-6. The Thundering Herd (23-13) took the second contest, 10-1.

Miami (Ohio) took a 7-0 lead in the second inning of the first game before Marshall cut into the deficit. Jenna McGivney hit a three-run home run for the RedHawks.

Kelly Nielson for Marshall had a two-run single in the bottom of the second inning.

Marshall added four runs in the third inning on a Caitlyn Jackson single and three Miami (Ohio) fielding errors.

Lauren Odom homered for the RedHawks in the sixth inning.

Marshall jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Adrianna Telles led off the inning with a solo homer. Rachael Sofie followed with a a three-run homer.

Melanie Stoehr smacked a three-run homer in the third inning. Autumn Mitchell pitched a five-inning, three-hitter to get the win.

Marshall goes on the road for a Conference USA series at UAB beginning Saturday.
