WV Thunder girls in AAU finals
CINCINNATI — West Virginia Thunder is playing for the AAU 13-Under/8th Grade Girls Basketball National Championship.
Huntington-based West Virginia Thunder meets the GA Pistols from Atlanta for the title in a 3 p.m., Wednesday, game at Lakota West High School.
Jenna Burdette led the way Tuesday in a 63-62 semifinal victory over All Iowa Attack.
Burdette made five of nine 3-point shots and scored 23. Brittani Rizzi followed with 10 points. Kathryn Westbeld added eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
All Iowa Attack made 18 consecutive free throws before one of its players missed a late attempt that would have tied the score.
West Virginia Thunder advanced to the final four earlier Tuesday with a 58-54 win over the Tennessee Lady Pride. West Virginia Thunder came back from a two-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Westbeld made five consecutive free throws to seal the win.
Westbeld posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Terra Stapleton and Burdette had 12 and 11 points respectively.
