Herd's Der wins volleyball honor
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University volleyball player Laura Der was named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team as an honorable mention selection.
Der, a junior outside hitter, led the Thundering Herd in kills (460), kills per set (4.34), total attempts (1,377), service aces (37) and points (521.0) and was third in digs (321).
"I love being a part of the Marshall community and I'm so proud to wear a Thundering Herd jersey," she said. "I work really hard to represent the school every time I'm on the court. Being able to bring recognition to our program is the best part of any award."
The Clarksville, Ind., native ranked No. 22 in the NCAA in kills per set this season and also finished as the No. 22 player in the nation in points per set with 4.96.
"Laura had a great season," said Thundering Herd coach Mitch Jacobs. "I'm very proud of her. She puts all her heart into the game and everything she commits to."
Marshall finish 18-12 overall and 8-8 in Conference USA.
