Marshall keeper gets shot at pros

Dec. 13, 2012 @ 12:17 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University goalkeeper Daniel Withrow is getting his shot in pro soccer.

Withrow was one of 54 college seniors invited to the MLS Player Combine, Jan. 11-15, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Rochester Hills, Mich., native broke nearly every goalkeeping record for the Thundering Herd this year, setting both the single season (9.5) and career (21.5) shutout records.

He allowed only nine goals in 17 matches, an 0.52 goals-against average, and posted a .895 save percentage.

At the end of the season the senior was named as the Co-Conference USA Player of the Year, becoming the first Thundering Herd player to receive the top individual honor.

West Virginia University had midfielder/forward Uwem Etuk and defender Eric Schoenle invited.

NCAA College Cup champion Indiana will be represented by goalkeeper Luis Soffner.

Georgetown, the NCAA runner-up, will have midfielder Ian Christianson joined by defenders Tommy Muller and Jimmy Nealis at the combine.
