Herd volleyball duo honored by C-USA
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall volleyball player Emily Sullivan was named to the All-Conference USA First-Team and setter Liz Fleming was a second-team selection, as released by the conference office early Thursday afternoon.
Sullivan, a senior outside hitter/middle blocker for the Thundering Herd, was second in the league in hitting percentage (.354) and seventh in kills per set (3.44/set).
"I'm very excited for Emily that she was recognized," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "She spent two seasons playing behind Kelly Anne Billingy and had nagging injuries last year, which held her back. It makes me so proud to see her put it all together and be an all-conference player this season."
Sullivan was set up for many of her kills by Fleming, who earned second-team All-Conference USA honors for the second time in her three years with the Thundering Herd. She was also named a second-team selection as a freshman in 2007.
Fleming, a junior from South Bend, Ind., finished second in Conference USA with 11.89 assists per set. She was named the C-USA Setter of the Week on two different occasions (Sept. 8 and Oct. 26) and topped the 50-assist mark on four different occasions.
"It's great to see Liz be recognized again," Jacobs said. "I think we have the most talented setter in the league and people will realize how great she is in her senior year."
Both Fleming and Sullivan lead the Herd into the Conference USA tournament, which starts today at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.
