Fairland's Wireman makes 2 Ohio finals
COLUMBUS -- Fairland distance runner Raine Wireman qualified for two events in the Ohio Track and Field State Championships.
The state meet is Friday and Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University in Columbus. Competition begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. Saturday's action starts at 9 a.m. Daily admission is $10. Children age two and younger get in free.
Wireman was the Boys Division II region champion in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:26.95.
The senior also ran on the qualifying 4x800 relay that had a time of 8:19.33. The Dragons placed fourth in the regional with a foursome of junior Taylor Lewis, senior Logan Rowe, sophomore Josh Sifford and Wireman.
Chesapeake qualified two girls in Division II. Jordan Porter, a junior, took second place in the regional with a toss of 39-2.5. Freshman Atiya Spaulding was a regional second-place finisher in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.53.
Coal Grove also has two athletes in the Division III meet -- Sophomore Brandon Adkins for the boys and senior Darrien Hankins for the girls. Adkins cleared 6-5 for a regional runner-up finish. Hankins was third in the regional discus with a toss of 110-9.
Gallipolis junior Hannah Watts qualified for the Girls Division II meet in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.03.
Wheelersburg seniors Zach Jenkins and Ross Pyles qualified in the Boys Division III long jump (20-3.50) and discus (142-10 respectively.
