St. Albans' Propst earns Female Gamer of the Week

Jan. 27, 2013 @ 09:30 PM

Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present the Jan. 4 Female Gamer of the Week award to Breanna Propst of St. Albans High School.

St. Albans has a very young team this year that is still learning how to play the game of basketball. But where experience is lacking, talent and hard work can take over. A great example of this is Breanna Propst, the Red Dragons extremely talented sophomore. Last week she dominated Point Pleasant with a 30-point performance to lead her team to a 58-37 win. She has averaged 17.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, and 5.1 steals per game.

Even with these numbers, Breanna says she still needs to improve to help her team.

"I feel I have been playing pretty well, but I still need to improve my shot. My strength has been being aggressive and driving to the basket."

Coach Scott James is very pleased with his sophomores' performances, saying "She does extremely well. Most people see the points, but she does so much more for our team than just scoring. She really is a complete player and a very humble and modest individual. I feel that she is one of the best players in the state right now."

Breanna says that even though she feels her team has been doing well, there is still much room for improvement.

"We need to continue to work on our defense and boxing out because rebounding has been an area that has kept us out of games. If we continue to work hard and improve, I see us going to the state championships."

We asked Breanna who has been an inspiration and drive in her life for basketball, and she responded with her mother. "Mom has coached me since I was little and has always pushed me to be better. She coached me in middle school and she is always at my games," she said.

Breanna is an active member of the Nitro Christian Fellowship church and currently has a 3.8 GPA.

Look for other local area high school athletes to be named next week's Female Gamer of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald.
