MU sets indoor track record
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Marshall University women's athletes set a Thundering Herd indoor record Saturday for the 4x400 meter relay at Nutter Field House in the Rod McCravy Memorial Track and Field meet.
Amber Pierson, Vanessa Jules, Loren Dyer and Shanice Johnson placed sixth with a time of 3:48.65 that beat the old record by nearly five seconds.
Jasia Richardson won the triple jump on her final leap with a 12.92-meter performance.
Jules was fifth in the high jump (1.70 meters) and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.68 seconds).
TENNIS
MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University defeated Marshall on Saturday, 4-3, ending a women's tennis 10-match losing drought against the Thundering Herd in the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
WVU (1-1) put took the doubles point with wins by Hailey Barrett/Ikttesh Chahal and Emily Mathis/Audrey Wooland.
The Mountaineers also had singles wins from Barrett, Chahal and Mathis.
Dominika Zaprazna from Marshall (2-1) won in No. 1 singles against Wooland, 6-2, 5-7, 8-4.
Marshall's other singles wins were by Dana Oppinger and Kara Kucin.
