MU's Williamson throws no-hitter

Purchase this photoTAMPA, Fla. -- Marshall Thundering Herd softball pitcher Andi Williamson twirled a no-hitter Saturday against Florida Atlantic.
Marshall defeated the Owls, 3-1, in the USF-Wilson DeMarini Opening Day Tournament at the USF Softball Stadium.
Williams struck out six and walked two. FAU scored in the fifth inning when Williamson walked Shelby Knox. Pinch-runner Whitley Herb scored on an error
The Herd struck for two runs in the first inning. Kaelynn Greene was hit by a pitch and went to second base on Ashley Gue's bunt single. Greene stole third and scored on a throwing error. Shaelynn Braxton reached base on an error and stole second while Gue stole home.
Alexandra Bayne's sacrifice fly drove in the other Herd run in the sixth inning.
SAMFORD 2, MARSHALL 1: Mollie Hanson of the Bulldogs allowed Marshall only five hits and recorded eight strikeouts in the Herd's second game of the day.
Kayla Shaffer and Madison Dickey drove in the Bulldog runs in the second inning.
Ashley Gue singled and scored for Marshall in the first inning.
Marshall completes the tournament with an 11:15 a.m., Sunday, game against Florida Atlantic
TENNIS
HUNTINGTON -- Purdue, ranked No. 26 in the nation, topped Marshall, 6-1, in a Saturday women's tennis match in the Huntington Tennis Club.
Purdue (1-1) won all five singles matches that were completed.
Marshall (2-3) took the doubles point with wins by Dominika Zaprazna/Maria Voscekova and Ellie Ball/Kara Kucin.
The Herd hosts Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. Sunday.
