Houston overpowers Herd, 103-76
HOUSTON — TaShawn Thomas inside and Joseph Young outside led Houston in a 103-76 men’s basketball victory Saturday afternoon against Marshall in Hofheinz Pavilion.
Thomas had 25 points and 14 rebounds while Young scored 23.
Danuel House also scored 23 while the Cougars also had a career performance by Mikhail McLean with 12 points.
Marshall's Dre Kane fired in 27 points, Elijah Pittman added 22 and Dennis Tinnon scored 13 to go along with grabbing 12 rebounds.
Houston made 59.4 percent of its shots, including 67.7 percent in the second half when the Cougars built a 32-point lead.\
Marshall attempted to come back after falling behind by 30 and got within 18 midway through the second half, but Houston stretched it out to the end.
Houston has a 16-11 season record and is 5-9 in Conference USA. Marshall is 12-17 and also 5-9.
Marshall returns to play its final home game of the season Tuesday against Southern Miss. It will be Senior Night for Herd players Rob Goff, Dennis Tinnon and Nigel Spikes.
